Anaka’s “Mombasa Skaters”

Anaka chronicles a day in the life of Mombasa’s street skaters, criss-crossing the streets of Mombasa as part of her growing Artkives during the Art Noise program. Anaka is an LA based visual creative and Artkivist, known for her cultural and photo-journalistic photography, video and other forms of expression that capture the experiences of a growing number of peoples.


Kerry James Marshall’s “Past Times”

This May, Kerry James Marshall’s painting Past Times sold for more than $21 million, making it the most expensive artwork sold by a living African American artist. Marshall is known for his various works in different media (painting, collage, video, etc.) that portray and comment on the history of black identity in the United States and in Western artwork.
